Through this project i explored textiles and played with different combinations of shape and colour to create some interesting wallpapers to be used within interiors, either domestic or commercial.

String Project.

During my last project of first year, I decided it would be an interesting idea to manipulate string around various compositions of wood to explore how different structures and wool would marry together and create something visually unique and interesting.

Emotion evoked by material.

Here i have picked to work with plastic as it is one of the most mainstream materials to be used in our industry... To create this sculpture i began playing around with plastic bags and fusing them with an iron...this almost gave the plastic a stiff characteristic and gave some structure for me to work with. I feel this is a very prominent reason as to why plastic is the ideal material for many things, as it is so flexible and can be easily moulded to fit the designers desires. Furthermore, i melted wax (can be seen in the close up)…this was to communicate that plastic as an overall can also be very beautifully sculpted when desired to be, which makes it a very diverse material. Lastly i wanted to express the wide colour varieties which can be achieved with plastic. I feel with some other materials, like metal, it is very limited to one specific aesthetic, whereas plastic can be used for pretty much anything and meet the brief.

Photography.

I chose to tackle the topic of commercial spaces and exploring their qualities through photographs. I made my way around Glasgow, Dundee and Largs looking for some interesting structures and textures found on the exteriors of shops I passed along the way. This project really opened my eyes to the really lovely aspects of buildings that we often don't look at, but as a designer i feel it is really important to open our eyes to the little things.
